Microsoft Office Products to Replace Calibri with Aptos Font

Microsoft Office products are set to move away from Calibri as the default font. The Aptos font, formerly known as Bierstadt, will become the default choice for all users within the next few months.
Calibri has been the standard option in Word, Excel, PowerPoint and all other Office products since 2007, when it replaced Times New Roman, the last serif font. Serif fonts have guides above and below the letters, which makes the text easier to read. However, sans-serif fonts are more aesthetically pleasing to most people, which is why Microsoft has chosen to switch to Aptos.

The Selection Process

In 2021, Microsoft revealed five fonts that were in the running for the coveted position. In the end, many users will not bother to choose a different font, so that countless documents will use the default.
The Bierstadt font came out as the winner. The other finalists may still be chosen within Office products.

Slow Adoption

However, many organizations are not very quick with these kinds of adjustments. For example, The Verge indicates that American authorities have only been prescribing Calibri as a standard since this year, as a result of which Times New Roman lapsed.
